In Mexico, not all mortars are made of volcanic rock, there are many that have been traditionally made of clay, with the carved lines on the inside of the bowl that facilitate grinding of the soft, cooked tomato and chile. This is one of those mortars.
Made for serving salsas, but also good for appetizers like olives, guacamole or nuts. Lead free, unglazed. Made by Lizeth from Hidalgo.
