The most traditional, world-known molcajetes mortars from Mexico are the molcajetes made from the recognizable dark, porous volcanic stone. However, they are not the only ones: the Mayas from Yucatán have used local stone for their kitchen utensils, and here is a stunning example: a white, Maya stone molcajete with 4 legs, smooth on the outside, with a rough inner surface that facilitates the grinding process.
Each of our molcajetes comes with a small gift: a traditional cleaning brush made of roots, called metlaxelhuaztli.
